Business Visitors Visa

Ensuring you travel on the right kind of Business or Standard visa

Those travelling to the UK for business may need a visa. This will depend on the length of time to be spent in the UK, whether the work is paid or unpaid, the nature of the work being undertaken and the applicant’s nationality.

Business Visit visa

The Business Visit visa is for individuals who wish to come to the UK for the purpose of carrying out a permitted short-term unpaid business activity for a temporary period of up to 6 months. It is one of the Standard Visitors routes. As always, there are a number of specific requirements that have to be met and these may vary depending on your circumstances. Whether you will need a Business Visitor visa will depend on whether you are deemed a visa national or non-visa national. Most visa nationals will need to apply for a Business Visitor visa. A visa national will be from a country listed in the Immigration Rules.

ETA

Applicants may also need electronic travel authorisation (ETA) prior to travel. ETA is a new security system electronically linked to a passport and it is being fully rolled out during the course of 2024.

Non-visa nationals and ETA

Non-visa nationals namely individuals whose nationality does not appear on the visa national list, will not need a visa in advance of travelling to the UK but must still request entry clearance at a UK port of entry. By the end of 2024, non-visa nationals will also be required to obtain ETA before travelling (pending any delays with the roll out of the new system).
